What's the Big Idea?
To correctly answer any main idea or summary question, you'll need to be able to describe briefly what the passage is mostly about.
Tips for finding the main idea in a passage:
Find the main idea by putting the details together
Make sure your choice for a main idea is supported by details in the passage
Look out for details disguised as main ideas
Don't expect the author to state the main idea directly
Read every choice before selecting your answer
Paraphrase a sequence of key events or ideas in a passage
Determine the theme of a passage
